The name “Always the Bear” was inspired by the question posed to women: Would you rather encounter a man or a bear alone in the woods?
Many women choose the bear because its danger is understood and its behavior is not personal. A bear will not follow you home, seek revenge, or try to convince others that the attack was your fault. The social media response reflects the fear and violence that far too many women have experienced at the hands of men.
